Making the methods static would gain little in performance,
make the code harder to change. Removing unncessary warnings
is more important.

These settings were added by Eclipse simply by touching
the project settings. Adding these makes it simpler to see
what local changes have been made.

Note the the settings are slightly less restrictive for test bundles.
-Also cleanup a couple of malformed javadocs
-Update compiler warnings/errors to include default values from Juno
-We now flag diagnosed null dereference as error. We didn't do that
earlier because of some false positives.

This only works with Eclipse 3.6 and newer and requires installation
of new package. Documentation is not very good, but there is a blog
about it here:

API checking is especially useful on OS X where Java5 is not readily
available.

If we are on a Java 6 JVM we should have the Console class available,
unless the user has redirected /dev/null to stdin. When there is a
console present we would prefer to use that for command line prompts
as that is what the user expects from a command line tool.
